We are only hours away from the new 2010. We are leaving 2009 behind, not an easy year for us, which is nevertheless finished successfully. I would like to express my gratitude not only to the Vice-Presidents, MPs, Coordinators of the Political Groups, but especially to the administration for its overall and responsible engagement. Address of the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski, at the International Conference on Prevention and Suppression of Violence on the Football Stadiums

Violence during sport events is present in our country too. If we look at this from the legal point of view, the Republic of Macedonia has a good system of sanctions for violence during sport events. Namely, we have the so-called Lex Specialis, and that is the Law on Prevention of Violence and Indecent Behaviour during Sport Events, adopted in 2004. This matter is covered also with the Criminal Code, the Law on Misdemeanour, etc. You are the people that should inform us if this legislation needs to be amended. Certainly, as President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, I would like to convince you that, regardless of our political affiliation, we are prepared to adopt any proposals regarding this issue in the shortest period of time

Address by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Parliament of Australia Harry Jenkins MP to the Members of the Assembly, Skopje

I am delighted to address this distinguished Parliament today. It is a great honour to appear before you, the first time for a Speaker of the Australian Parliament, and I welcome the opportunity. Our two countries share warm and friendly relations, which are underpinned by strong community ties and close people-to-people links. Both our communities consist of historically significant multicultural and ethnically diverse populations of which we, together, can be very proud.
In the latest national Australian Census some 84 000 people living in Australia reported having Macedonian ancestry. Some immigrated to Australia, while others were born in Australia. Although they might be Australian citizens, their Macedonian cultural heritage remains strong.
It is no small thing to uproot families and personal lives and travel half way around the world. But that is what many Macedonians have done in coming to Australia

Participation of the Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia , Ms. Svetlana Jakimovska in the Extra EU and Candidate States Speakers’ Conference

It is my privilege and pleasure to participate on today’s conference after the adoption and entering into force of the Lisbon Treaty which enhanced the role of the national parliaments. This is the most important novelty of this Treaty which overcomes the democratic deficit in the European Union. This practically means that EU will have better legislation through its improved knowledge of the conditions in the Member States and will develop into an antiparliamentary democracy

MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, MR. TRAJKO VELJANOSKI, WITH THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF AUSTRALIA, MR. HARRY JENKINS, WHO IS IN AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA

“It is indeed a great pleasure when a true friend visits the Republic of Macedonia, and you Mr. Jenkins, are a true friend of our country”, said at the beginning of the meeting the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski. “Although Macedonia and Australia are far away from each other, we have good bilateral relations, and the two parliaments should make their contribution to this aim. I am pleased with the fact that the House of Representatives of Australia has established the Macedonia Friendship Group. These relations should be developed further because a large number of the Macedonian Diaspora lives in Australia, and the signing of the social agreement during the visit of the Macedonian Prime Minister, Mr. Nikola Gruevski, was received very positively in Macedonia”, emphasized the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski. “Macedonia is committed to the Euro-Atlantic Integrations, and as you probably know, recently the visa regime with the EU member states for the Macedonian citizens was abolished. In my opinion, we should have this kind of agreement with Australia, having in mind the connections with our citizens living in Australia”, said Mr. Veljanoski.
