The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski meet Mr. Zoran Thaler, MEP and Rapporteur on the Republic of Macedonia in the European Parliament

At the meeting, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski once again emphasized the positive results of Macedonia and its institutions in the process of European integration. “The visa regime liberalization for the Macedonian citizens, as well as the Republic of Macedonia 2009 Progress Report and the recommendation for opening the accession negotiations are acknowledgement for our results and for our commitment for EU membership.

EU Summit in Brussels

The EU Summit will be held on 29th and 30th October in Brussels. The EU leaders will discuss global warming and the future of the Lisbon Treaty, which cannot enter into force until it is ratified by all the EU member countries. The only signature missing is that of Czech President Václav Klaus.

The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament Supported the Visa Liberalization Report

Late Monday the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs supported the report on annulment of visas for Western Balkans countries Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro as of January 1, 2010. Only one MEP voted against the report, and two MEPs abstained.

Conference on Support for EU Enlargement

Sweden, holding the presidency of the European Union, and the European Commission will hold a joint conference on support for EU enlargement. The purpose of the conference is to discuss the financial support provided by the EU to candidate countries (Macedonia, Turkey and Croatia) and to potential candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia) under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA), to help pay for reforms to bring them into line with EU standards.

THE MEMBERS OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT SUPPORT MACEDONIA AFTER THE PRESENTATION OF THE 2009 PROGRESS REPORT FOR THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA

During yesterday’s meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, several MEPs expressed their support for the recommendation of the European Commission for opening the accession negotiations with Macedonia. The MEPs called for visa liberalization for the Balkans, as well as implementation of the Ankara Protocol.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
H.E. Mr. Erwan Fouere, the EU Ambassador to the Republic of Macedonia, has presented the Republic of Macedonia 2009 Progress Report. We already know the contents of the Report.
Most important for all of us is that the Report of the EC clearly confirms the progress of the Republic of Macedonia and recommends opening of the accession negotiations.

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia Mr. Trajko Veljanoski received the President of the Republic of Estonia Mr. Toomas Hendrik Ilves. At the meeting the President of the Assembly especially underlined the cooperation between the two friendly countries. He pointed out that the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with the parliament of the Republic of Estonia of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia has already established regular cooperation with their colleagues from the Estonian Parliament.

Positive Report for the Republic of Macedonia

The European Commission published the positive 2009 Progress Report for the Republic of Macedonia, which means that the Republic of Macedonia, after being a candidate country for four years, will open the accession negotiations for EU membership.

Poland Ratified the Lisbon Treaty

On 10th October the President of the Republic of Poland Mr. Lech Kaczyński signed the Decree on the Lisbon Treaty, thus completing the ratification of the European reform agreement of his county. After this ratification, the President of the Czech Republic Mr. Václav Klaus is the only one left to sign the Lisbon Treaty, in order for it to enter into force.

Delegation from the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, headed by the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski met the leading politicians of the Republic of Croatia

At the meeting with the President of the Croatian Parliament, Mr. Luka Bebić, both delegations conformed the highly developed friendly relations between the two states and in that framework the regular meetings and cooperation between the two Parliaments. The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski welcomed the recent agreement between Croatia and Slovenia, which enables Croatia to continue with the EU accession negotiations. Both sides showed that they respect the EU standards not only declaratively, but also practically, and at the same time are responsible for the future of the EU. The Republic of Macedonia expects that, on the basis of the achieved results, the EC Report, which should be published soon, will include the date on opening the accession negotiations.

EU-Brazil Summit: Joining forces for success in Copenhagen

The climate change and energy were the main topics during the debate at the EU- Brazil Summit, held yesterday in Sweden. The host of the Summit - the Swedish Prime Minister Mr. Fredrik Reinfeldt, the President of Brazil Mr. Lula da Silva, and the President of the European Commission Mr. José Manuel Barroso, agreed to work together on reducing the emissions of carbon dioxide and to have another meeting before the December Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen.

Ireland says yes to the Lisbon Treaty

At the second Referendum on the Lisbon Treaty 67.3% of the citizens of Ireland voted “Yes”, and 32.87% were against the treaty. Only 2 of Ireland's 43 constituencies have rejected the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.
