THIRD REGIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE PARLIAMENTARY RESEARCH SERVICE
On June 16, 2017, at the Educational Center of the Parliamentary Institute, the Third Regional Conference of the Parliamentary Research Centers entitled Budget Transparency and Accountability and the Role of Parliaments was held at the Educational Center of the Parliamentary Institute.
The purpose of this conference was to review current policies regarding budget transparency in the region and to emphasize the role of parliament in the oversight and control of the budget process.
In order to meet the needs of the conference, the participants prepared a study offering answers to several key issues: what is budget transparency and accountability and why it is important, what are the current policies regarding budget transparency and transparency in line with international standards.
Of particular interest was the question of the role of parliament in the budget process, as well as in the oversight and control over the execution of the budget.
The conference was attended by 18 researchers from 6 parliamentary services from the region who took part in the preparation of the study, as well as representatives of the Parliamentary Service of the Swiss Confederation.
