Svetlana Jakimovska was born on 8 June 1956 in Skopje. Her ethnic background is Macedonia and she is member of VMRO-DPMNE. She graduated secondary education in “Rade Jovchevski-Korchagin” gymnasium and graduated from the Faculty of Law “Iustinianus Primus” at the Ss. “Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje. She is married and has one child.
She started her professional career in 1984 in Makoteks company Skopje where she later became head of the department for normative activities and management bodies.
In the period 2001-February 2002 she is deputy director of the Agency for Employment of the Republic of Macedonia. Since March 2002 with decision by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia she was appointed as director of the Employment Agency of the Republic of Macedonia.
In parallel with her professional activities, Svetlana Jakimovska is very active and successful in her political party VMRO-DPMNE. She closely relates her political engagement with her profession – the law and legislation.
She performs many functions in her political party:
- deputy and co-president of the Committee on social issues, labour relations and employment;
- member of the Committee on legal issues;
- member of the economic forum; member of the forum on legal, political issues and judiciary system and others;
- member of the Central Committee of VMRO-DPMNE and
- member of the Executive committee of the Union of Women of VMRO-DPMNE.
She was awarded for her engagements with multiple acknowledgments and recognitions, including: for special commitment and personal contribution in th partnership for economic development of the Republic of Macedonia, in the project for application of the integrated model of the Department of Labor of the United States, supported by USAID (April 2002).
She is actively participating on many international conferences and seminars, political skills and campaigns organized in cooperation with the Centre for Education and Training MOTIVA (March 2008) and in the "Campaigning Masterclass" activity for campaign of highest professional class.
On the parliamentary elections in June 2006 she was elected as member of the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia from VMRO-DPMNE. During the 5th composition she is Chairperson of the Committee on the Rules of Procedure and Mandatory and Immunity Issues and she is also member of other parliamentary committees and bodies.
She was re-elected as member of the Parliament in at the early parliamentary elections in June 2008 and on the session of the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia held on 31 July 2008 she was elected as vice-president of the Parliament.
Being vice-president, beside other activities and tasks, Svetlana Jakimovska chairs the Budget Council of the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia, she is aloso member of the Committee on Labour and Social Policy, member of the Parliamentary Group of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for Cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Poland, member of the Parliamentary Group of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for Cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Slovenia, member of the Parliamentary Group of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for Cooperation with the Parliament of Montenegro AND Vice-chair of the Committee on Rules of Procedure, and Mandatory-Immunity Issues.
