Tonight for me, and I believe for you to, is a great honour and pleasure to mark together the opening of the 55th Jubilee Balkan Festival of Folk Dance and Song. An event, which here and worldwide in these 55 years is recognized in the international catalogue of most significant folk events.

On behalf of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and on my personal behalf, I would like to express the appreciation to the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria and to the President, Ms. Tsetska Tsacheva for the successful Chairmanship of the South East European Cooperation Process, as well as for the excellent organization of this Plenary Session.

The President Veljanoski Opened the 54th Balkan Festival of Folk Songs and Dance  

This folklore event of ours, as the oldest on the Balkan, very successfully represents and affirms the cultural heritage and achievements of the participants’ states and nations in the past 54 years. Indeed, it sounds impressive, that so far over fifty thousand singers, dancers and instrumentalists from all continents participated in this Festival. I will only mention that the most beautiful Ohrid hosted the ensembles from Australia, USA and Canada, Malaysia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Nigeria, to name a few.

It is my great pleasure to address before you at the beginning of the Session of the Parliamentary Committee on the framework of the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative, one of the oldest regional organizations in Europe, Today, CEI gathers 18 states, out of which 10 are member states of the European Union.

This statement is even more important since this is an event that will further strengthen the parliamentary dimension, without which NATO will not be what it is.  
Macedonia, as parliamentary democracy with clear European and Euro – Atlantic perspective addresses each of its friends affirming its truth, needs and expectations.

It is an honor to speak on the different aspects of our famous Macedonian history.  
The honor is great because of the deeds left to us by our heroes, and even more, because of the opportunity, reminding ourselves to the past, to learn lessons for the presence and our future! Macedonia would not have been what is today without the people who sacrificed themselves before the altar of freedom.
Generations of heroes from all historic era and all towns of our suffered motherland are embodied in the basis of our state independence.

ADDRESS OF THE PRESIDENT VELJANOSKI ON “STRENGTHENING THE POLITICAL DIALOGUE” 

The political dialogue, inter alia, is one of the basic principles which the European Union was created. In the same time, these matters as benefits of the civilization rise on the level of obligatory democratic standards for all states in the world. Western Balkan, which is undoubtedly part of Europe rapidly adopts these European civilization benefits. The period when problems were resolved with guns rather than words on the Balkans, is part of our dark past. We have chosen to work towards achievement of something which naturally belongs to us – the community of European people and states. Nevertheless we have to resolve the remaining open issues.

 The Republic of Macedonia so far achieved many development projects and activities and in the future the focus shall be on motivation of the competitiveness, providing better conditions for the local businesses and creation of more and better working positions.
