Events

Being guided by the strategic determination of the Republic of Macedonia for membership in the EU and being fully supported by its citizens, and in particular taking into consideration the necessary criteria and the obligations taken over by the institutions in charge and all the social entities, the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, on its session held on 19 November 2007 adopted a Decision Establishing the National European Integration Council (Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No.140/2007).

On the Session held on 6 July 2011, the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia adopted a Decision Amending the Decision Establishing the National European Integration Council (Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No. 91/2011).

The Council has Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, 15 Members and 9 Deputy Members: 9 members from among the MPs, who have heir Deputies and 6 Members coming from other institutions: Vice Prime Minister on European Integration, Representative from the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Macedonia , Representative from the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, Macedonian Academy of Science and Arts, Community of the Local Self-Government Units and from the Journalists Association of the Republic of Macedonia. These six members participate in the work of the Council, having no right to vote.

The Chairperson of the Council comes from among the MPs who are in the Opposition, and the Deputy Chairperson from the ruling parliamentary parties.

Members and Deputy Members of the Council: three Members and three Deputy Members are from the MPs who are in the Opposition; three Deputy Members are from the MPs of the ruling parliamentary parties.

Ex officio members are: the Chairperson of the European Affairs Committee, Chairperson of the Foreign Policy Committee and Co-chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee of the Republic of Macedonia and the EU, and Ex officio Deputy members are: the Deputy Chairperson of the European Affairs Committee, Deputy Chairperson of the Foreign Policy Committee and one of the Deputy chairpersons of the Joint Parliamentary Committee of the Republic of Macedonia and the EU.

The manner of work, the rights and the obligations of the chairperson, the deputy - chairperson and members of the Council, the publicity of the work and the expert, administrative and other logistics of the Council are regulated by the Rules of the National Council adopted on 25 October 2011.

The Council brings its decisions by reaching consensus from among the present MPs having the right to vote.

The sessions of the Council are public. The Chairperson of the Council or at least one third of the members can propose the Council to work in camera Council should accept the proposal by consensus.
