Meeting of President Xhaferi with the Vice-President of the European Parliament Mr. Fabio Massimo Castaldo

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi met with the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Mr. Fabio Massimo Castaldo who participated in the Conference for Young Leaders, organized by the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and the European Parliament on youth political participation and youth policies with the Members of the Parliament from Western Balkans.

"CHILDREN'S PARLIAMENT" IN THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA

President Xhaferi welcomed the newly appointed Ambassador Bazdnikin and wished him success in carrying out this responsible position. He underlined that the strategic priority of the Republic of Macedonia with the decision of the citizens is the Euro-Atlantic integration of the country, but also attaches great importance to the promotion of bilateral relations with the Russian Federation, particularly to the parliamentary and economic cooperation.

I am honored that we have gathered today to mark 25 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Republic of Macedonia, at this solemn but also working meeting. We are talking about diplomatic relations with a state that is a cradle of parliamentary democracy, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and one of the most developed states economically.

Official opening of Contact Offices for Members of Parliament and Citizens

The Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, together with the units of the local self-government, have already started opening contact offices for MPs and citizens of the Republic of Macedonia. The intention is to bring together the MPs and the citizens, so the MPs can hear citizens’ problems and communicate them to the Assembly and to all state institutions.

MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND US DEPUTY SECRETARY OF STATE, MR. JOHN J. SELIVAN

Today, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi had a meeting with Mr. John J. Sullivan, US Deputy Secretary of State.

At the meeting, President Xhaferi expressed gratitude to the United States as a strategic partner of our country, for their continued support not only to the Republic of Macedonia, but also to the entire region. Address of the President Xhaferi on the Occasion of September 8 – Independence Day

Welcome at the celebration of this exceptionally important historic day. I am honored to host this event today, as in fact the custom implies, since it was here, in the legislature, in the House of Citizens, exactly twenty-eight years ago, that our colleagues from that parliamentary composition put the citizens' decision on paper and brought it to life. It was a decision arising from the referendum held on September 8, 1991 when the centuries-long dream, the centuries-long desire for a free, independent, sovereign state came true as citizens opted for such an independent, sovereign state whose fundamental postulates for the development of civil society were incorporated in the highest legislative act - the country's constitution.

Appeal to assistance to the Western Balkans region in combating the COVID-19 pandemic

Aware of the complexity of the current situation and the problems we all face as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this joint appeal is intended to highlight the currently very unfavorable and challenging situation of the Western Balkans region, both in terms of numbers infected, as well as the insufficient health equipment in the region necessary for the successful prevention, treatment and stopping of further spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). In this respect, we now, more than ever, need solidarity, a coordinated approach and joint action.

Today, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, met with Gent Cakaj, Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania.

On this occasion, President Xhaferi thanked the Republic of Albania for being the third member of the Alliance to ratify the Protocol for the accession of the Republic of North Macedonia to NATO. He briefed the Minister on the upcoming work activities of the Assembly, such as the consideration of several legislative amendments imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, then the activities related to the European agenda and the opening of the first chapters at the end of this year.

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, met today with the newly appointed Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia, H.E. Mr. David Geer.

Congratulating him on his new post, President Xhaferi hailed the excellent cooperation with his predecessors and the EU Delegation in the country. He briefed the Ambassador on the continuous cooperation with the European Parliament and in that framework, the initiative of the EP President, David Sassoli to hold summits with Speakers of Western Balkans Parliaments and the cooperation within the EU-Republic of North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee.

Today, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi received Majlinda Bregu, Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council. On this occasion, President Xhaferi expressed satisfaction to meet Ms. Bregu again, when regional cooperation is intensified and deepened, especially at a time of pandemic when most international meetings are held virtually. He stated that the Republic of North Macedonia attaches great attention to regional cooperation, as a key component for the European integration of the region, and has, in continuity actively participated in the work of the regional organisations and initiatives, including the meetings of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, met today with the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo, H.E. Gjergj Dedaj.

President Xhaferi expressed satisfaction with the good and constructive bilateral relations between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Kosovo, as well as the fruitful inter-parliamentary cooperation. He assessed the cooperation within the Parliamentary Assembly of the South East European Cooperation Process as particularly important, extending congratulations on the successful completion of the presidency of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo with this important forum for political and diplomatic dialogue.

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, met today with the President of the Republic of Slovenia, H.E. Borut Pahor.

President Xhaferi expressed satisfaction at holding today’s meeting with a statesman who comes from a friendly country and promoter of our Euro-Atlantic integration. The intensity of bilateral meetings at all levels is just another confirmation of the excellent bilateral relations that have been built and nurtured for years. He thanked for the support in key moments from our recent history, especially in times of crisis when Slovenia offered its help by sending teams to our southern border to deal with the refugee crisis and currently, with a medical team and protective equipment to deal with the pandemic caused by COVID-19.

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, met today with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, H.E. Sergei Bazdnikin.

At today's farewell meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Japan, H.E. Keiko Haneda, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with the Japanese Embassy, that is, with the first resident ambassador, H.E. Haneda. In that regard, Haneda stressed that she expects this cooperation to continue in the coming period with the new ambassador, continuing the trend of strengthening political and economic relations between the two countries. This will result in increased Japanese investments, and intensified cooperation in the fields of medicine, tourism, culture and other areas.

Ladies and gentleman, attendees at this special virtual conference for the Balkans, focused on the fight against Semitism, I am pleased to be able to greet you in this manner and to wish you above all good health during this global threat for the health of each person.

The human, with all virtues and flaws, is the most perfect being who knows, can and most of the time reasonably uses the blessings of life. Nevertheless, there are moments, unfortunately sometimes extended periods, when common sense remains a silent witness to inhumanity, when inhuman treatment of other living beings prevails. We have seen a lot, and we are still seeing and apparently still learning how to prevent the recurrence of the horrors of the Holocaust, the genocide, discrimination and unequal treatment of people.

THE ASSEMBLY REVIEWED THE DRAFT-LAW ON THE CENSUS

Mr. Ademi, underlined that is being discussed a very important law which will enable the census of the population, households and dwellings in the Republic of North Macedonia in the period of 1-21 April 2021, considering that the last census in the country was conducted in the year 2002, and the census in the year 2011 was not realized. He underlined, that regarding the need to conduct the census, as a member state of the UN we are obliged to conduct the Census which will be realized in accordance with the adopted International recommendations for censuses of the population and households, drafted by the Economic Commission for Europe of the UN and Eurostat.

The Chair of the Council expressed optimism for fruitful cooperation in the future and sharing the experiences that Slovenia has in the process of the accession negotiations.

ORIENTATION SEMINAR FOR THE NEWLY ELECTED MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT TO NATO PA

Within the organization of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and NATO, on 14th January 2021, through the KUDO platform was held the orientation seminar for the newly elected MPs, which since 2000 is regularly held in Brussels. This online event was attended by the MPs Pavle Trajanov and Arbana Pasholli, members of the Committee on Defense and Security, and by the Parliamentary staff the event was followed by the Secretariat of the Delegation of the Assembly to NATO PA.
